LINKWITZ Minimum Microphoning Medal 2026 winner celebration at Buenos Aires AudioShow

LINKWITZ Minimal Microphoning Contest winners

June 30, 2026 – In the pursuit of the absolute sound, audiophiles often dissect the playback chain with surgical precision. We obsess over cartridges, cables, and amplifiers. Yet, the most critical conversion processes in any musical chain exist at the absolute physical boundaries: loudspeaker playback and acoustic capturing.

Even the most transparent speakers on earth can only reveal what the microphone captured. On the capturing side, we are experiencing something far more powerful than a new trend: a profound return to our roots. It is a quiet renaissance that trades sterile, million-dollar multi-track consoles for pure acoustic authenticity—echoing the golden age of recording. It is the art of Minimal Microphoning.

The concept is beautifully simple, yet ruthlessly unforgiving: a single stereo microphone paired with masterful recording skills. No safety nets. No modern “fix it in the mix” illusions. Just the unvarnished truth of the performance.

To encourage the next generation of sound engineers to embrace this non-mainstream, highly authentic technique, the LINKWITZ Minimal Microphoning Contest was born. After crowning Alice van Biesen and Giorgos Dekos from the Netherlands as the 2025 winners (who were awarded their medal and $1,000 at last year’s Munich Audio Show), the 2026 results are finally in.

Meet the 2026 Winners: Lobos Solitarios

This year, the LINKWITZ Minimum Microphoning Medal travels to South America. We are thrilled to announce that the 2026 winners are Lobos Solitarios, a profoundly talented young quartet hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

What makes their winning track a masterpiece is the sheer bravery of their production. The song was recorded from start to finish in a single take. There was zero editing, zero overdubbing, and no post-production done on the track. What you hear is the exact acoustic reality of the room, captured by a single stereo mic.

Together, they engineered an expansive, breathing soundstage that challenges recordings with a budget fifty times as large. The winning track serves as the title song for their upcoming 4-track EP, simply titled ‘Lobos Solitarios’.
