AKu Audio Introduces ONAR: The Amalgamation of Engineering Precision and Artistic Truth in High-End Loudspeakers
AKu Audio today announces the global launch of ONAR (meaning “dream” in ancient Greek), the latest premium addition to its highly acclaimed loudspeaker portfolio. Carefully engineered down to the finest detail without cutting corners, ONAR embodies the core philosophy of AKu Audio: approaching loudspeaker design as an uncompromising problem-solving process rather than merely following transient market trends. While the consumer audio landscape often relies on standardised solutions, the high-end systems crafted by AKu Audio virtually create a category of their own, delivering the clinical neutrality required of world-class studio monitors alongside breathtaking aesthetic form.
This release marks the latest milestone for AKu Audio, founded in Athens by systems designer George Kazantzis and mechanical engineer Kostas Kazantzis. Hailing from a family of three generations of engineers, the brothers have synthesised specialised expertise from fields transcending traditional audio to build a singular acoustic toolset. ONAR successfully bridges the gap between the original artistic intent of creators and the listener’s environment, offering a definitive path to audio nirvana for clients worldwide.
Advanced cabinet architecture and vibration control
ONAR stands as an iconic statement of industrial design, fusing premium materials, masterful craftsmanship, and extreme structural rigidity. Every parameter has been calculated to ensure the speaker enclosure operates as a completely inert foundation, entirely free from parasitic resonances. Each speaker has a weight of 35kg. without its stand.
The enclosure utilises a multi-layered composite body construction consisting of CNC-carved MDF layers, high-density absorption rubber and aluminium – a minimal vibration, three-material design. Internally, the cabinet surfaces abandon parallel walls in favour of a complex, sine-based nonplanar geometry. This structure effectively diffuses back-wave energy and eliminates the internal standing waves that plague conventional high-end loudspeakers. Two additional 4-point anti-roll bars are integrated to strengthen the cabinet in key points. Furthermore, a specialised waveguide is precision-carved directly into the massive front baffle, optimising acoustic dispersion, phase alignment, and transient delivery.
A New Benchmark for Studio Monitors & Modern Audiophiles
ONAR delivers a remarkably transparent, uncompressed sound field designed for critical listening, resolving complex harmonic structures with absolute clarity.
At the heart of the system is a D’Appolito driver configuration featuring a matched pair of advanced 9.5-inch TeXtreme® mid-bass woofers. These high-excursion transducers utilise an optimised neodymium motor system with dual shorting rings and an under-cut pole piece, achieving exceptionally low distortion even when operating at a thunderous maximum SPL of 120dB. Dual, flared non-linear 3D printed bass reflex vents assist in the lowest octave. Positioned centrally, a 1.34-inch aluminium-magnesium (Al-Mg) dome tweeter handles high frequencies with breathtaking speed, vanishing distortion, and an extended response reaching up to 35KHz. The system maintains a highly accurate frequency response in most rooms, of 20Hz – 20000Hz @ +-1.8dB. Depending on room size and speaker placement the low frequency extension can reach 14Hz. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) does not exceed 0.2% at high volume playback.
As a fully integrated active speaker, ONAR is driven by a custom two-channel AKu-Hypex Ncore amplification package, delivering a dedicated 250 Watts to the mid-bass section and 250 Watts to the treble section. System management is executed via a high-end digital processor (DSP) ensuring that the outputs are flawlessly amplitude, time, and phase aligned.
Each ONAR pair is individually matched and calibrated by AKu Audio’s master audio engineer with its own set of measurements stored in our servers for future updates, tunings or repairs.
Users can seamlessly toggle between three tailored DSP presets via the integrated oled Status Screen and remote control, allowing ONAR to adapt flawlessly to the listener’s intent:
- P1 – Flat: Absolute, uncoloured linear precision for critical listening.
- P2 – Harmon: A beautifully smooth, organically balanced curve designed for relaxed, atmospheric listening.
- P3 – Studio: Maximised resolution, immense power handling, and razor-sharp transient response for demanding mixing and mastering sessions.
Seamless Integration and Global Compatibility
The high-end loudspeakers from AKu Audio are engineered to integrate seamlessly into any modern environment, whether a professional recording facility or a luxury living space. ONAR features a comprehensive digital and analogue I/O matrix backed by high-end AKM ADC/DAC converters.
Connectivity includes Neutrik balanced XLR inputs for Analogue & AES/EBU, Hypex Gold RCA unbalanced inputs for Analogue & S/PDIF (supporting up to 192KHz), and an optical Toslink input (up to 96KHz). Featuring global mains voltage compatibility (100-240VAC), ONAR is built to perform consistently across international markets.
Power supply cables & digital interconnect are included in the system thus, the only thing needed from the user is a music source and he is ready to play!
Consistent with the brand’s dedicated client service, AKu Audio backs ONAR with its 5-year limited warranty, comprehensive after-sales support, offering personalised room acoustics consultations, placement optimisation, and remote room tuning for proper integration.
