Moon 791
$16,000
This unit combines a Roon-Ready streamer, phonostage, DAC, and control preamp in a single box. Just add a power amp and speakers (or simply active speakers) and you’re ready to rock. HDMI eARC works with your TV. Simple and sleek is nice, but at this price point, you should expect some form of sonic glory. And the 791 delivers. On listening, we found that the phono preamp was fully competitive with separate high-end options: open, smooth, and very quiet. The streamer has its own app if you don’t want to use Roon, and we found this app performed slightly better sonically than Roon on some tracks. The DAC is spacious sounding, and instrumental separation was excellent. Across the board the 791 is competitive with separates that would add up to or exceed this price point. Well done. YT
