KEF LSX Wireless Powered Loudspeaker
$1249
It’s been three years going since I first came across the KEF LSX, and I have the pleasure of saying that I am still using a pair and loving them. The LSXes are compact, wireless, attractive, and boast enormous sound that won’t require endless tweaking. They’re powered by a 70W Class D amp for the mid and bass driver, and a 30W amp for the tweeter. The inputs are simple: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi streaming, optical, and 3.5mm analog. There’s also a sub-out for an extra hit of bass, an Ethernet port for wired Internet, and a USB port that can be used for Chromecast Audio. On the desktop, they’re fantastic as a set of nearfield speakers hooked up to a computer. In a traditional hi-fi setup, they’ll impress with their big, bold sound. While their bass won’t blow out eardrums, there’s definitely a palpable slam. The LSXes are insanely flexible and could be slotted in anywhere with a convenient wall socket. They’re truly wireless, which means they don’t need a tether to connect with each other, though a wired connection is necessary to reach the highest possible digital-playback resolution. Setup is about as brainless as it gets, and the app allows for customization. Of all the pieces of gear I’ve reviewed, the LSX remains one of my very favorites.
We have a forthcoming review from Drew Kalbach for KEF’s LSX II.
