Leading Names In Audiophile World To Share Expertise At New York Audio Show In April

New York, NY, March 20, 2013 – A dozen renowned experts will share their high performance audio expertise in clinics, seminars and panel discussions at the New York Audio Show, April 12 – 14, 2013 at the New York Palace Hotel. 

The three-day event is expected to draw upwards of 3,500 audio and music enthusiasts to hear from recording and sound subject matter experts, including Chesky Records and HD Tracks founder David Chesky, Contributing Technical Editor at Sound + Vision Brent Butterworth and Mark Waldrep, Ph.D., founder and owner of AIX Records and iTrax.com.  Attendees will also experience demonstrations from more than 75 companies.   

Produced by The Chester Group, this second annual show will exhibit and display the wonder of music through quality audio. “At our inaugural show, fans of high-end sound gave high marks to our special events led by some of the field’s leading authorities” said Roy Bird, Chairman of the Chester Group. “We’ve responded this year by expanding the program to cover a wider range of topics with even more music experts sharing their knowledge on each of the three days.”

Friday, April 12, 34:00 p.m. Cutting the Cord – Will Bluetooth® Replace Audio Cables?, is presented by Audio Precision field applications engineer and author Dan Foley, who will deliver an overview of Bluetooth audio codecs used to transmit digital audio. Live demonstrations will be performed comparing playback of music files via audio cables and streaming via Bluetooth A2DP and aptX® audio codecs.

Friday, April 12, 4:305:30 p.m. Understanding Frequency Response, Distortion and other Audio Specs, presented by Brent Butterworth, will feature live demonstrations of the basics of audio specs and how they affect what you hear.

Friday, April 12, 6:007:00 p.m. The World of Hi-Res Audio Downloads is a panel discussion moderated by composer, musician and Chesky Records and HD Tracks founder David Chesky and will feature panelists Mark Waldrep, Brent Butterworth and audiophile and musician Rob Robinson,Channel D’s Director of Engineering.

Saturday, April 13, 11:00 a.m.Noon. Virtues of Vintage: Audio Gear from the Early Days of High Fidelity. Led by Stereophile Magazine Editor-At-Large Art Dudley and TONEAudio Magazine publisher Jeff Dorgay, panel members will discuss the relevance of domestic audio products designed and manufactured a half-century ago and the challenges of reconditioning, repairing, and maintaining classic audio gear.

Saturday, April 13, 12:301:30 p.m. Take the Intimidation out of Buying Audio is a panel discussion featuring dealers that will explore how to shop for quality audio equipment, including preparing to visit a dealer, what to expect, what happens after the sale and more. Brent Butterworth will moderate.

Saturday, April 13, 2:003:00 p.m. Vinyl Ripping Session, presented by Rob Robinson, will provide a step-by-step demonstration of everything you need—and want—to know about transferring vinyl LPs to high resolution digital audio files, from hardware to digital recording, ripping and storage strategies and editing.

Saturday, April 13, 3:304:30 p.m. Accurately Assessing Sound Quality; from Old School to New Tools.  Mark Knox, a consultant who has worked for Toshiba, Samsung and Denon, will explore some of the sacrifices made in sound quality to deliver music to the mass audience, and will introduce a simple process for evaluating the quality and fidelity of any music playback system.

Saturday, April 13, 5:006:00 p.m. Downloadable Masters. Mytek Digital Founder and Chief Designer Michal Jurewicz and Grammy-nominated high-resolution mastering expert Alan Silverman of ARF! Mastering will present a behind-the-scenes look at how digital and analog masters were historically produced, preserved and transferred to digital high resolution formats.

Sunday, April 14, 11:00 a.m.Noon Personalized Music: Customizing for Headphone Delivery. Mark Waldrep will address the increased availability of better quality audio downloads and high-quality headphones, as well as the implications for music lovers and audiophiles with particular focus on fidelity and immersive sound.

Sunday, April 14, 12:30 a.m.1:30 p.m. Speaker and Headphone Measurement: How the pros do it and how you can do it.  Brent Butterworth will present a tutorial on how to conduct measurements with inexpensive gear.

Sunday, April 14, 2:00 p.m.3:00 p.m. Presenting the SLOEMusic Foundation—an outstanding listening experience.  Spiral Groove/Immedia sales executive Stirling Trayle and cyber-security computer specialist Steve Hurdintroduce The SLOEMusic™ Foundation, an educational non-profit organization they co-founded to provide a listener-centered, artist-driven platform focused on listening to beautifully performed and recorded music at an elevated experience level.

Screenings, workshops, music and more

In addition to the seminars and panels, the 2013 New York Audio Show will feature an exclusive sneak preview and private screenings of Last Shop Standing—the official Record Store Day Film for 2013—and the Classic Album Sunday listening experience sessions.  Live performances by Chesky Records artists, including Amber Rubarth and Valerie Joyce, will take place each afternoon of the Show and there will be special live performance by recording artist Lori Lieberman on Saturday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Stereophile Magazine contributing editor and AnalogPlanet.com editor Michael Fremer will host daily workshops on how to set up your turntable; how to read and master matrix codes on records’ lead-out grooves and other vinyl-oriented topics.

Grammy-winning recording engineers Darcy Proper and Jim Anderson will share their record mastering expertise with attendees in a series of “From Studio to You” sessions, presented by PMC Speakers, The Sound Organisation and SoundStageDirect.com.
