Dan D’Agostino, the legendary designer who founded Krell, debuted the first product from his new company. The company is simply called “Dan D’Agostino” and the product is the Momentum monoblock power amplifier. The Momentum incorporates many ideas Dan had been thinking about for years, particularly techniques for creating a high-power amplifier in an elegant, compact chasis. D’Agostino’s designs have always been known for their massive power output and ability to drive any loudspeaker load, but the Momentum accomplishes that feat with style and elegance. The amplifier’s most distinctive visual characteristics are a round front-panel meter, highly polished metal casework, and copper heat sinks running along the sides. The copper is functional, absorbing heat more quickly that aluminum heat sinks. The 90-pound Momentum delivers 300W into 8 ohms, 600W into 4 ohms, and 1200W into 2 ohms. Price: $42,000 per pair. D’Agostino is working on a matching preamplifier and disc player for introduction later this year.

My older brother Stephen introduced me to music when I was about 12 years old. Stephen was a prodigious musical talent (he went on to get a degree in Composition) who generously shared his records and passion for music with his little brother.
