The following is a press release issued by Qobuz.
March 31, 2020 - Qobuz, the music service with the world’s largest Hi-Res catalog, has announced that it is waiving its revenue share on all download sales, passing 100% of this revenue through to the rightsholders for two full weeks beginning today.
Dubbing the program Gimme Shelter, Qobuz USA Managing Director Dan Mackta said, "With hats off to Bandcamp for leading the way with this brilliantly simple idea, Qobuz will similarly put its profit from download sales right back into the pipeline to help sustain the creators whose artistry makes a service like ours possible."
While most acclaimed in the US for its lossless and Hi-Res streaming service, Paris-based Qobuz also imported its robust download store to the market because demanding fans everywhere want to be able to buy their music in the best available quality with no restrictions. The mainstream download services do not offer lossless music for sale, let alone Hi-Res better-than-CD-quality music.
The Qobuz download store features 50 million tracks in lossless (16-bit/44.1k) and Hi-Res (24-bit/up to 192k) and is highly regarded for its emphasis on jazz and classical labels, as well as eclectic self-released artists from around the world distributed through DIY aggregators. All will benefit from Gimme Shelter, an opportunity to discover and buy studio quality music while helping Qobuz give extra support to the artists and creators in this time of crisis.
